Summer has come to East London (well, almost!) and as we head towards July, with the hope of sunnier days, there’s only one thing the people of East London are looking for – a sunny terrace! On the corner of Old Castle Street and Wentworth Street you’ll find my brand new outside area enclosed by olive trees – a little Greek oasis on the edge of Petticoat Lane Market. Got 24 hours to kill in East London? Below I’ve suggested a few things to pass the time…
Amongst the restaurants and shops in East London is one of the best markets London has to offer: Colombia Road Flower Market! When the sun’s out on a Sunday head to this narrow 1960s street to feast your eyes (and noses!) on hundreds of beautiful flowers and plants all available to buy and take home – I just can’t resist!
Only a stones throw away from my restaurant on Wentworth Street, this gallery is the perfect shelter from an unannounced downpour, well, it is a British summer after all! First opened in 1901 with a mission to bring ‘great art to the people of the East End!’. Following a bit expansion in 2009 this gallery now has nine galleries, although none yet showcasing any of my #DonkeyDoodles – watch this space!
East London Restaurant – Hungry Donkey
So, you’ve done some activities and now it’s time to re-fuel! It’s easy to feel overwhelmed when looking for somewhere to eat in East London with restaurants on every corner, but there’s something that many won’t have, and that’s an outside terrace like we have! Whether it’s a breakfast meeting of coffee and Greek pastries, lunching with colleagues on grilled souvlaki meats and fresh Greek salad or simply meeting some friends after work for mezedakia and a chilled glass of Savatiano, my terrace is the perfect meet up spot.
